Water savings increase as program extends
The goal of saving up to 10,000 megalitres of water per year is closer to becoming a reality for local councils thanks to the extension of the Water Loss Management Program until June 2011.
The program is a joint initiative of the LGSA and the NSW Water Directorate, and includes Commonwealth funding of $7.3m from the Water Smart Australia program, part of the Government's $12.9 billion 'Water for the Future' plan.

NSW Climate Change Fund New round of funding closes 30 April 2009
under 2 streams. (1) Community Savers stream - funding of up to $40,000 for not-for-profit community organisations to undertake simple, low-cost water and energy saving upgrades in the facilities they use.
(2) Demonstration stream - funding for projects which demonstrate how water and energy savings work in practice in public or educational facilities which are open to, and frequently accessed, by the public
Water Adjustment Innovation Fund
This Department of State & Regional Development fund provides $9m over 5 yrs for communities to invest in innovative water saving technologies. Preference is for projects that create local employment and investment , especially in communities adversely impacted by prolonged drought or the impact of climate change reforms..
Businesses, business clusters and industry groups located in the Murray Darling Basin including the catchment management areas of the Border Rivers/Gwydir, Namoi, Central West, Western, Lachlan, Lower Murray Darling, Murrumbidgee and Murray are eligible to apply. Projects should be discussed with your local DSRD office prior to submitting an expression of interest. Sydney Water’s Water Saver Grant Program for small to medium businesses in Sydney, Illawarra and the Blue Mountains using between 20 and 80 kilolitres of water a day. Funding includes up to 50% cost of water efficiency projects valued between $4,000 and $40,000.
Re-Tooling for Climate Change
Round 2 closes 16 February 2009 (Round 3 - 1 June 2009) - $75m over 4yrs for small to medium sized Australian manufacturers for projects to improve the energy and/or water efficiency of their production processes. Grants from $10,000 to $500,000, up to a maximum of 1/3rd of the cost of each project.
